Trade group urges leaders to resolve tariffs and support industry growth

Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) is calling on leaders in the United States and Canada to work together toward a fair, stable, and predictable trade relationship that benefits businesses across North America.

The organization recently sent letters to U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, encouraging both governments to continue discussions aimed at improving trade cooperation. AED also contacted Dominic LeBlanc, Canada's minister responsible for Canada-U.S. trade, asking for a quick resolution to the ongoing tariff dispute between the two countries.

AED represents companies involved in the heavy equipment industry, including businesses that serve the construction, agriculture, mining, forestry, transportation, and infrastructure sectors. The association says smooth trade between Canada and the United States is important because equipment manufacturers, dealers, and customers depend on strong cross-border business relationships.

According to AED, its member companies operate more than 7,200 locations across North America, generate over $100 billion in annual revenue, and employ more than 140,000 people. These businesses help provide the machinery and services needed to support key industries that contribute to food production, transportation, construction projects, and economic growth.

“AED members supply and servicethe equipment needed to feed, fuel and build North America,” said AED President and CEO Brian P. McGuire. “We will continue advocating in both Washington and Ottawa for free and fair trade between both countries that provides the certainty equipment dealers and manufacturers need to invest and grow.”

The association has been actively involved in trade discussions since the tariff dispute began. Through meetings with government officials in both Ottawa and Washington, AED has worked to represent the interests of equipment dealers and the wider industry.

As trade negotiations continue, AED believes reducing barriers and improving cooperation between the two countries will help strengthen economic growth, support businesses, and create long-term opportunities for industries that rely on heavy equipment throughout North America.
