Organization Urges Swift House Approval for Vital Farm Programs

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) is welcoming progress made by the U.S. Senate to end the ongoing government shutdown, emphasizing the importance of restoring essential agricultural operations and support programs.

AFBF President Zippy Duvall applauded the Senate’s bipartisan action and highlighted how the decision will benefit farmers, ranchers, and families across the nation.

"Farm Bureau commends the Senate for voting to end the government shutdown, ensuring that farmers and ranchers can continue to rely on critical USDA services and disaster relief to keep their farms running and also ensure Americans maintain access to food assistance programs," said Duvall.

He further recognized the Senate’s move to extend the U.S. Grain Standards Act and other key farm bill programs, as well as authorizing USDA’s 2026 budget. According to Duvall, these measures are essential for ensuring agricultural stability and advancing long-term rural development.

“We also appreciate the Senate’s action to extend the U.S. Grain Standards Act and key farm bill programs, as well as authorizing USDA’s 2026 budget. These actions, along with the improvements to farm programs in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, will provide much-needed certainty for farmers as we work with Congress to pass a modernized five-year farm bill,” Duvall added.

Duvall urged members of the U.S. House of Representatives to act promptly and pass the legislation so it can be signed into law. “Farm Bureau urges members of the House to act swiftly and pass this legislation so it can reach President Trump’s desk without delay," he said.

With vital USDA programs back on track, the AFBF remains hopeful for quick progress toward a new farm bill that strengthens food security and rural resilience.
