Farmers use clean power systems to grow food and boost land value

Agri energy is a farming system that combines agriculture and renewable energy on the same land. It allows farmers to grow food while also producing clean energy from solar or wind systems. This method supports farm income, land protection, and long-term sustainability.

Many farmers today face rising land prices, high production costs, and limited profits. Younger generations often find it difficult to enter farming. At the same time, renewable energy projects need large land areas. Agri energy solves both problems by allowing energy production and farming to happen together.

Solar grazing is a common form of agri energy. Farmers raise animals like sheep and cattle under solar panels. Crops such as wheat, hay, vegetables, and berries can also grow beneath raised panels. These systems help control weeds, improve soil health, and lower land maintenance costs.

Farmers may experience slightly lower crop yields, but the total income per acre increases because energy leases add strong financial support. Many farmers earn much higher returns while using fewer resources. These systems also improve local food and energy independence.

Some concerns exist about costs and land quality. However, research shows that these systems protect farmland and include land restoration plans after energy use ends. Agri energy keeps farmland active and prevents land from being lost to buildings and commercial development.

In many regions, agri energy is expanding because it offers steady income and environmental benefits. Incentive programs and community partnerships help farmers and developers work together successfully.

Agri energy is becoming an important solution for farming communities. It protects land, supports food production, strengthens rural economies, and creates a sustainable future for agriculture and clean energy together.

Video: Canada reaches tariff deal with China on canola, electric vehicles

Canada has reached a deal with China to increase the limit of imports of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in exchange for Beijing dropping tariffs on agricultural products, such as canola, Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Friday.

The tariffs on canola are dropping to 15 per cent starting on March 1. In exchange for dropping duties on agricultural products, Carney is allowing 49,000 Chinese EVs to be exported to Canada.

Carney described it as a “preliminary but landmark” agreement to remove trade barriers and reduce tariffs, part of a broader strategic partnership with China.
