24 county programs earn national recognition for community outreach

The American Farm Bureau Federation will honor 24 county Farm Bureaus during its 107th Annual Convention in Anaheim, California, held January 9 to 14. These counties were selected through the County Activities of Excellence program for delivering creative and community-focused agricultural programs.

“It’s a joy to celebrate these innovative, volunteer-driven efforts,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “These county leaders are dedicated to building connections that support rural communities and help bridge the gap between agriculture and urban life.”

Several states will be recognized for innovative projects. In Alabama, Geneva County formed a Farm-City Youth Council that encourages young people to become involved in agriculture from an early age. Illinois’ DuPage County launched a container gardening program that teaches students how to grow food at home.

Kansas received multiple awards. Counties there organized youth livestock summits, farmers markets, food security projects for seniors, and agricultural summer learning programs that included farm tours and demonstrations. Kentucky’s Harlan County hosted a countywide agriculture and forestry field week to introduce students to career opportunities.

Michigan’s Livingston County created a program that helps teachers earn education credits while learning about agriculture. Ohio earned recognition for many programs, including farmer mental health outreach, classroom agriculture conferences, tire recycling events, teacher training programs, and family-focused holiday agriculture activities.

Oklahoma counties were recognized for recycling initiatives and community block parties that connect Farm Bureau with local families. Oregon’s Klamath-Lake County hosted an annual pancake supper to thank members and strengthen community relationships. Texas counties were honored for leadership development programs, legal education seminars, and professional retreats for agricultural agents.

Virginia also received recognition for garden-based learning programs and farmland preservation education efforts.

Convention attendees are encouraged to visit the award-winning counties’ booths on the trade show floor to learn more about these impactful initiatives. These programs show how local Farm Bureaus continue to support education, sustainability, wellness, and food security while preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders.
