Bayer Unveils New Crop Protection and Seed Technologies

From smart corn systems to advanced soybean traits, Bayer is accelerating innovation for modern farming operations.

Bayer is moving forward with its strategy to introduce 10 blockbuster agricultural innovations over the next decade, with several major products already reaching growers in key markets worldwide.

The company defines a blockbuster as a product with peak sales potential of at least $580 US Dollars (€500 million). Among the first innovations being commercialized are the Plenexos insecticide and the Preceon Smart Corn System.

In the soybean sector, Bayer plans to launch Vyconic in the United States and Canada next year, while Intacta 5+ is expected to be introduced in Brazil during the 2027-2028 growing season.

“We are delivering on the promises we made and bringing a new generation of game-changing products to farmers. By connecting seed and crop protection innovation we can deliver whole-farm solutions that help growers manage risk, capture yield potential and improve return on investment,” said Rodrigo Santos, Member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG and Head of the Crop Science Division.

The Preceon Smart Corn System, a digitally enabled short-stature corn platform, is already being used in Mexico, Italy, Spain, and the United States, with Argentina joining its commercial rollout this year.

The system helps farmers improve resilience against extreme weather, optimize planting density, and increase yield potential while reducing production risks. Bayer aims for the technology to reach 26 million acres by 2035, supported by digital integration through FieldView.

Meanwhile, Plenexos has launched in Colombia and is expected to expand into Mexico, Brazil, and the United States. The insecticide targets a broad range of sucking pests while requiring significantly less active ingredient than many existing solutions.

Vyconic is designed to become the industry’s first soybean trait stack with tolerance to five herbicides, giving farmers greater flexibility in weed management and resistance control. Intacta 5+ will offer similar herbicide tolerance benefits in Brazil while adding advanced insect protection traits tailored to local growing conditions.

Alongside these product launches, Bayer continues to strengthen its research and development program through AI-powered breeding, genome editing, and advanced crop protection technologies.

“Whether in seeds, traits or crop protection innovation, AI is becoming a core enabler of Bayer’s innovation model, helping us advance discovery, improve development efficiency and translate biological insights into differentiated products for growers faster,” said Mike Graham, Head of Crop Science R&D.

The company is also expanding into emerging markets such as hybrid wheat and biofuel crops, while advancing its Five-Year Framework strategy focused on growth, innovation, profitability, and long-term value creation for growers and shareholders.
