USDA welcomes Carson as advisor on nutrition health and housing
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has named Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., as the National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing. The announcement was made by Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins, who praised Carson’s wide-ranging expertise in medicine, community development, and housing.
Carson will advise both President Trump and Secretary Rollins on policies related to nutrition, rural healthcare quality, and access to safe housing. His role will also connect closely with USDA’s Rural Development Mission Area and the President’s Make America Healthy Again Commission.
Secretary Rollins emphasized the importance of this appointment, noting that six in ten Americans live with at least one chronic disease and that rural communities face unique challenges. “There is no one more qualified than Dr. Carson to advise on policies that improve Americans’ everyday quality of life,” Rollins said.
“Today, too many Americans are suffering from the effects of poor nutrition. Through common-sense policymaking, we have an opportunity to give our most vulnerable families the tools they need to flourish,” said Dr. Ben Carson. “I am honored to work with Secretary Rollins on these important initiatives to help fulfill President Trump’s vision for a healthier, stronger America.”
Carson previously served as the 17th Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during the first Trump Administration and is the Founder and Chairman of the American Cornerstone Institute. Before entering public service, he spent nearly three decades as Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, where he achieved groundbreaking medical milestones. His achievements have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
With this appointment, USDA aims to strengthen health and housing policies that will directly impact rural families and support long-term community growth.
