The Cleanfarms stewardship program supports environmental protection by offering free disposal services for agricultural chemicals and animal health products.
Farmers across Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley are preparing for this year’s Unwanted Pesticides and Old Livestock/Equine Medications (UPLM) program, Cleanfarms’ long-running environmental stewardship initiative.
The Canada-wide program gives farmers a free and responsible way to dispose of unwanted commercial-class pesticides and outdated livestock and equine medications. By providing safe disposal options, the initiative helps reduce risks to farms, surrounding communities, and the environment.
Eight one-day collection events are scheduled across British Columbia this October. Running from October 6, 2026, through October 16, 2026, the events will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Four locations are in the Fraser Valley, while four are on Vancouver Island. This year also marks the first UPLM collection event in Port Alberni.
“The reach of this year’s events means even greater convenience to BC farmers,” said UPLM’s Program Coordinator Heather Bradley.
“Greater program participation, combined with the promotional work of our agricultural retail and regional district partners creates more awareness among growers and municipalities across BC about the full range of Cleanfarms programs and pilot projects for ag plastics.”
Support for the initiative also comes from the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI).
“CAHI members are proud to support British Columbia’s farmers and ranchers through our long-standing partnership with Cleanfarms," said Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and CEO of the Canadian Animal Health Institute.
"This free program offers a safe way to dispose of unwanted or expired livestock medications, helping protect animals, farms and communities across the province,” Dr. Filejski added.
Events are scheduled in Abbotsford, Delta and Langley in the Fraser Valley, and Cumberland, Duncan, Port Alberni and Victoria on Vancouver Island.
