New executive director to strengthen advocacy for Canadian grain farmers

Grain Growers of Canada has announced the appointment of Bruce Burrows as its new Executive Director, effective April 1, 2026. With more than four decades of experience, Burrows brings strong leadership and deep knowledge of policy, transportation, and industry relations to the role.

Burrows has built a long career working across transportation, infrastructure, labour policy, and national associations. Based in Ottawa, he has developed effective strategies in government relations, including policy planning, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and coalition building.

His experience allows him to understand the complex relationship between industry and government. He has previously held senior leadership roles with organizations such as the Chamber of Marine Commerce and the Railway Association of Canada. In addition, he has worked in advisory roles and held management positions with Canadian Pacific Railway both in Canada and internationally.

These roles have helped him gain valuable experience across supply chains, energy, and resource sectors.

Burrows is known for his ability to bring different stakeholders together and create strong partnerships. His leadership style focuses on clear communication and effective advocacy, especially at the federal level. This makes him well suited to represent the interests of grain farmers across Canada.

“It is a real honour to join Grain Growers of Canada and represent the interests of grain farmers across the country,” said Burrows.“As essential drivers of our economy and suppliers of the food Canadians and customers around the world rely on, it is critical that producers’ priorities remain front and centre in federal decision-making.”

“Strong advocacy starts with strong connections, and I look forward to strengthening those relationships by working with producers and members across Canada to ensure their priorities continue to be clearly heard in Ottawa,” he said.

The leadership at Grain Growers of Canada believes his appointment comes at an important time. The grain sector is facing both domestic and global challenges, including economic uncertainty and changing market conditions. Strong leadership is needed to guide the sector forward.

“Bruce brings a proven ability to drive sector priorities and build strong industry coalitions that effectively engage government,” said Grain Growers of Canada Chair Scott Hepworth. “The Board is confident he will strengthen our advocacy and help move those priorities forward for grain producers across Canada.”

With his experience and strategic approach, Bruce Burrows is expected to strengthen advocacy efforts and support Canadian grain producers in achieving long-term success.
