Lallemand said the extension reflects proven performance under Canadian conditions.

Lallemand Animal Nutrition has announced that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has extended its approved claims for BIOPOWER SC, a viable yeast product (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077) classified as a gut modifier in Canada.

The new approval adds calves, kid goats, and lambs for rearing under registration numbers 982800 and 982803, following a review process that began in 2023.

“The added claims for young ruminants reflect Lallemand’s dedication to rigorous research and product consistency under Canadian production conditions,” said Theunis Wessels, Canadian Country Manager, Lallemand Animal Nutrition. “We are proud that the CFIA has recognized the proven benefits of BIOPOWER SC, supporting producers to improve efficiency and performance.”

The updated CFIA-approved claim states that BIOPOWER SC may improve feed conversion ratio and may increase weight gain in calves, kid goats, and lambs for rearing. This applies to BIOPOWER SC 20 and BIOPOWER SC 10ME, which can be incorporated into premixes, mash feeds, and heat-processed applications such as pelleting, tubs, and liquid feeds.

Additional approved benefits include:

  • Increased milk production in lactating dairy cows, goats, and sheep;
  • Increased average daily gain in beef cattle and sheep for fattening;
  • Improved fiber digestibility in horses.

“BIOPOWER SC continues to set the standard for consistent, research-backed performance,” added Stuart Gebauer, North American Sales and Marketing Director, Lallemand Animal Nutrition. “This extension underscores Lallemand’s unwavering investment in high-quality research and the proven value our microbial technologies deliver to the market. Canadian producers, feed mills, and nutritionists can trust that every solution we offer is backed by robust science and designed to help them achieve reliable, sustainable results.”

Video: You Be The Judge: Evaluating 8 Breeding Rams!

It's time for some honest feedback here at Ewetopia Farms! Today, we’re showing you all eight rams we used for breeding this year. Instead of just presenting them, we thought it would be fun to create a “Ram Report Card” — where we point out both their strengths and areas for improvement.

But here’s the twist: you be the judge! In the comments, let us know what you like about each ram and what you think could be improved. No ram is ever perfect, but every one of them brings something valuable to the flock. By sharing perspectives, we all learn more about what to look for in good breeding stock.

At Ewetopia Farms, we raise registered Suffolk and Polled Dorset sheep, focusing on high-quality genetics, structure, and friendly temperaments. Evaluating breeding rams is part of the bigger picture of building stronger flocks — and we’re excited to share the process with you.
