Farmers in Hong Kong are paying the most for diesel
Farmers are feeling the pinch of high diesel prices this fall.
Between running equipment and trucks, the increased costs are leaving already thin margins even thinner.
“Of course it’s the worst timing ever, cause this is when we use the most diesel fuel with all the equipment in the field along with the trucks that we have on the road to haul the grain to market,” Bart Bittner, an Illinois farmer, told KCUR.
“When you get hit with fuel prices like that, it’s just going to cut into the bottom line,” Pennsylvania farmer David Wolfskill told WFMZ.
The increased diesel prices caused by geopolitical issues isn’t only affecting farmers in North America.
With that at top of mind, Farms.com compiled a list of the 10 countries with the highest average national diesel price, with how much it would cost to fill different combines.

Multiple manufacturers are looking at alternative fuel sources for the future.
New Holland, for example, donated a methane-powered tractor to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources for researchers to explore converting the working farm’s plant waste and livestock manure into biomethane to fuel the tractor.
A French company called Terafield has an electric combine known as the Moonstone.
The combine delivers about 340hp and can cover up to 74 acres per battery charge.
