New payment supports sustainable beef certification in 2026

The Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB) has announced the launch of the CRSB Certified Producer Incentive. This new program is designed to recognize and reward beef producers who have invested time and resources to become certified under CRSB standards.

The main goal of this initiative is to support farmers and ranchers who follow the CRSB Sustainable Beef Production Standard. By encouraging certification, the program also strengthens responsible beef sourcing through certified supply chains across Canada.

In its first year, 2026, all eligible beef producers will receive an incentive payment of 400 dollars. To qualify, producers must either maintain their certification as of June 30, 2026, or have been CRSB Certified at any time between January 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026. They must also complete all CRSB Certified Qualifying Cattle Requirements and hold a valid certificate issued by a CRSB-approved Certification Body.

The incentive program will continue every year. However, future payments will be based on the volume of CRSB Certified beef sold. The amount distributed in later years will depend on available funds and will be shared equally among eligible producers. Payments for the 2026 incentive are expected to be distributed by October 2026.

“The CRSB Certified Producer Incentive is an important step for the program and serves as a thank you from the CRSB and its supply chain partners that the investments beef producers have made to become certified do not go unnoticed. Rewarding producers for their commitment to sustainable practices will continue to move our industry forward and enable us to communicate that to Canadians,” said Ryan Beierbach, Chair of the CRSB and Saskatchewan rancher.

Producers interested in learning more about certification and other available incentives are encouraged to visit the official CRSB Certified program website. This initiative marks a positive step toward building a stronger and more sustainable Canadian beef industry.
