Producers and leaders unite in Washington to support agriculture needs
Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) joined hundreds of participants from across the Farm Credit System for the national Farm Credit Fly-In in Washington, D.C. The event brought together leaders, board members, teammates, and customer-owners, including many young and beginning farmers. Their goal was to meet lawmakers and speak about the issues shaping agriculture today.
Representatives from Farm Credit associations serving all 50 states and Puerto Rico met with federal delegations. FCSAmerica, along with AgCountry Farm Credit Services and Frontier Farm Credit, took part in 33 meetings with lawmakers from the eight states they serve. Although each association maintains its own board, they operate under joint management and present a unified voice for farmers in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Eastern Kansas.
The Fly-In highlighted the importance of reliable credit for farmers and ranchers. FCSAmerica leaders shared that dependable financial tools help rural communities stay strong. The association continues to focus on policies that support young and beginning producers, who often face challenges accessing capital and managing risk.
Participants from FCSAmerica’s Starting Gate program were invited to share their experiences. This program pairs new producers with financial coaches who help them build business skills and make informed decisions. These young producers said the Fly-In helped them explain how decisions in Washington affect daily life on the farm.
Speakers emphasized that talking directly with lawmakers helps close the gap between producers and elected officials. Sharing real experiences from the field helps bring context to policies being discussed in Congress.
While Congress has acted on several farm safety net improvements, important Farm Bill items still need attention. These programs support farm income, strengthen trade, and help rural communities grow.
The day ended with a Farm Credit Marketplace Reception, where products from customer-owners were displayed for guests. The event demonstrated the cooperative mission of the Farm Credit System and its long-term commitment to serving agriculture.
