9) Niagara farm groups seek support

Rainfall

Three of Niagara's leading agricultural organizations are urging governments to provide targeted support to growers following a series of severe rainfall events that have caused widespread flooding across the region.

According to a joint statement from Flowers Canada, Grape Growers of Ontario, and Ontario Tender Fruit Growers, recent storms have significantly affected farms, businesses, and residents throughout Niagara.

The organizations said the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and recovery is expected to be a lengthy process.

Industry leaders are asking governments to implement several measures aimed at supporting both immediate recovery and long-term farm viability.

Among the requests is enhanced crop insurance coverage for vine and tree mortality to help address emergency losses and support replanting efforts.
