As farmers spend more time outside during the spring and summer months, and with May recognized as Melanoma Awareness Month, Farms.com spoke with Falyn Katz, the CEO of Melanoma Canada, about melanoma in Canada, sun safety tips, and how to spot a mole that may need attention from a health care provider.
“Melanoma is one of few cancers with incidence rates on the rise,” she told Farms.com.
Melanoma is the 7th most diagnosed cancer in Canada.
More than 11,000 people are diagnosed with melanoma each year, and around 1,000 people die from it.
“More men are diagnosed than women,” Katz said.
