
P.E.I. MP Heath MacDonald is Canada’s new minister of agriculture.
The MP for Malpeque received the appointment on May 13 along with the rest of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet.
MacDonald was a member of the House agriculture committee, as well as the House public safety and finance committees.
On at least one ag issue, MacDonald voted with opposition parties.
In March 2023, for example, he was one of three Liberals to vote in favour of Conservative Bill C-234 to provide farmers with additional carbon tax exemptions.
