The recall against Alberta’s minister of agriculture is likely to fail.
With only nine days remaining to collect signatures, organizers in Minister RJ Sigurdson’s riding of Highwood have only secured 807 of the 15,788 (5.1 per cent) signatures required to recall the minister, according to RecallRJ.ca.
Canvassers would have to collect an average of 1,664 signatures per day to reach their goal by the Feb. 22 deadline.
Minister Sigurdson and other UCP MLAs were included in Operation Total Recall.
This movement, which started in the fall, targeted MLAs and ministers who voted in favour of using the notwithstanding clause to end a teachers’ strike.
As of Feb. 23 the recall officially missed the signature threshold by more than 14,000 signatures.
