Farmer in combine

High diesel prices for Canadian farmers at harvest puts extra pressure on the operation.

To put the increased costs into perspective, Farms.com compared current diesel prices with those of past years and calculating how much farmers are spending to fill different combines.

At $2.50/L in September 2026, farmers would spend $3,125 to fill a John Deere S780 with its 1,250L tank.

In 2011, when diesel was $1.30/L, farmers would’ve spent $1,625 to fill the same combine.
