Funding supports community infrastructure, food security, accessibility improvements and emergency services in rural Canada.

Rural communities across Canada are receiving a boost from Farm Credit Canada (FCC), which is investing $1.5 million through its FCC AgriSpirit Fund to support 83 community projects designed to improve local infrastructure, services and gathering spaces.

The funding will help rural communities address local priorities ranging from food security and accessibility improvements to recreation facilities, energy-efficiency upgrades and emergency services. Individual grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 are being awarded to projects that strengthen communities and support long-term local development.

According to Justine Hendricks, president and CEO of FCC, the investments recognize the role community organizations play in enhancing rural quality of life.

"Strong rural communities are built by people who recognize a local need and take action," Hendricks said. She noted that the projects supported through the fund help strengthen the places where people live, work and gather while contributing to the long-term vitality of rural Canada and the agriculture and food industry.

The announcement comes at a time when many rural communities are facing growing pressure to maintain and upgrade local infrastructure while supporting economic development. Projects funded through the AgriSpirit program often provide benefits that extend beyond agriculture, helping create more resilient communities that can attract families, businesses and future investment.

Since launching the program in 2004, FCC has provided support to 1,861 projects and invested more than $25.5 million in community improvement initiatives across Canada. The funding has supported projects in cities, towns and Indigenous communities with populations under 50,000 residents.

The AgriSpirit Fund is available to registered charities, non-profit organizations, municipalities, and First Nations, Métis and Inuit governments or communities. Eligible projects focus on improving community well-being through practical investments in infrastructure and services that address local needs.

For many rural communities, funding programs such as the FCC AgriSpirit Fund help make projects possible that might otherwise face delays due to limited local resources. Whether upgrading community facilities, improving accessibility, strengthening food security initiatives or enhancing emergency response capabilities, the investments are intended to create lasting benefits for residents and support the long-term success of rural Canada.

Organizations interested in future funding opportunities can review eligibility requirements and examples of previously funded initiatives through the FCC AgriSpirit Fund program
