Sir Charles E. Saunders – Ontario

Sir Charles E. Saunders – Ontario

Saunders was a dedicated plant breeder. He made several contributions to ag but one of the greatest was developing Marquis wheat, a variety which established Canadian Hard Red Wheat as the standard for quality of wheat. He bred for characteristics such as yield, strength of straw and date of maturity. Because of this contribution, among others, he was knighted in 1934.
