Speers is best known as a leading breeder of Thoroughbred horses and was well known in the racing world for his many projects including the enclosed stall starting gate. He also operated a cattle ranch in Manitoba, a feedlot in Quebec and had extensive grain operations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
