Tour connects grain producers with MPs to address key sector challenges
The Grain Growers of Canada (GGC) is on a Summer Tour across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta to engage with grain producers and bring their concerns to Ottawa.
From August 11 to 14, GGC Executive Director Kyle Larkin, along with local Members of Parliament (MPs), will visit key farms in the Prairies. This tour will highlight the real-world impact of federal policies on grain farming, especially the uncertainty surrounding trade agreements, recent tax increases, and declining research funding for the sector.
The tour’s aim is to ensure that MPs understand the struggles farmers face as they prepare for the upcoming harvest. These challenges, including the federal capital gains tax increase, are putting immense pressure on the grain sector. The GGC’s outreach will focus on the need for policy changes that address these issues, aiming to foster long-term sustainability and growth for grain producers in Canada.
Throughout the tour, Larkin will share insights with the public into the specific concerns of farmers, ranging from global trade disruptions to the tightening financial landscape. The meetings will provide a platform for direct dialogue between farmers and MPs, fostering better understanding of the agricultural industry’s pressing needs.
