Iowa Corn Growers Welcome Progress on Nationwide Year-round E15
The Iowa Corn Growers Association continues its long-standing effort to expand the use of renewable fuels across the country. For more than 15 years, the organization has strongly supported nationwide, year-round access to E15, a gasoline blend containing 15 percent ethanol. This goal remains especially important as farm families face rising costs, unstable markets, and tightening profit margins.
Recently, progress was made with the introduction of an amendment to the House farm bill that would permanently allow nationwide, year-round sales of E15. This development was welcomed by corn growers, industry leaders, and renewable fuel advocates who view E15 as a key tool to strengthen corn markets and support rural economies.
ICGA President Mark Mueller, a farmer from Waverly, responded positively to the proposal and emphasized its importance for Iowa producers. “This legislation is the common-sense step we’ve been working towards for a long time. Iowa corn growers need the stability that nationwide, year-round E15 provides. This is more than just policy—it’s a lifeline that’s going to help increase corn demand and allow many of us to continue farming.”
Mueller also highlighted how the amendment addresses challenges that previously slowed progress. “This new proposal is a smart, pragmatic path forward, addressing past roadblocks that have previously stalled progress in Washington. E15 is win-win situation. It provides a more affordable, American-made fuel for drivers while supporting the farmers who grow it. It is a compromise that supports all stakeholders involved.”
Beyond supporting farmers, year-round E15 is viewed as an important step toward stronger energy independence by increasing the use of domestic fuel sources. The ethanol industry also contributes job creation and economic growth across many agricultural states.
The association expressed appreciation for Iowa’s congressional leadership for advancing the amendment. “We appreciate Representative Feenstra and our entire Iowa delegation for their continued leadership as they push for passage of E15. They’ve stayed focused on our energy independence and fought hard to make sure Iowa farmers’ voices were heard. Now, we ask that Congress work together to permanently pass this legislation.”
ICGA leaders say permanent approval of year-round E15 would provide long-term stability for farmers, benefit consumers, and strengthen the nation’s renewable fuel future.
