Cooperative invests in Tulare facility to meet rising global protein demand

Land O'Lakes has announced a major investment in its dairy processing facility in Tulare, California, aimed at increasing production of high-value dairy proteins. The project is designed to help the cooperative meet growing demand for protein-rich food products while creating new opportunities for its farmer-owners.

"At a time when protein is reshaping how consumers eat and how the food system operates, this investment positions Land O'Lakes, our Tulare facility and our farmer-owners to lead," said Heather Anfang, EVP of Land O'Lakes and President of Dairy Foods. "We are continuing to build a more resilient, growth-oriented dairy business while creating new demand for member milk and laying the groundwork for long-term opportunity."

The investment will allow the facility to produce ultra-filtered milk; an important ingredient used in many protein-focused food and beverage products. By expanding its processing capabilities, Land O'Lakes expects to increase the value of milk supplied by its members and strengthen its position in evolving food markets.

According to Heather Anfang, Executive Vice President of Land O'Lakes and President of Dairy Foods, protein is becoming one of the most important factors influencing food choices around the world. Consumer interest in nutrition, wellness, and emerging health trends has driven demand for foods that contain high-quality protein.

Industry forecasts suggest that global demand for dairy protein will continue to grow over the coming years. Land O'Lakes believes the expanded Tulare operation will help address this need while supporting dairy's role as a trusted source of nutrition.

The investment is especially important for cooperative farmer-owners. As a member-owned organization, Land O'Lakes focuses on creating greater value from milk production. The additional processing capacity is expected to generate new market opportunities, improve long-term returns, and support sustainable growth for dairy farms.

The Tulare facility is in one of the largest dairy-producing regions in the United States. Its existing infrastructure, available capacity, and access to export markets make it an ideal location for future growth.

Land O'Lakes also expects the project to benefit the local community by supporting jobs and strengthening the regional agricultural economy. Company leaders say the investment reflects a long-term commitment to innovation, farmer success, and meeting the changing needs of consumers worldwide.

It's time for some new Dorset breeding rams at Ewetopia Farms, so we head to the Morinville Colony online sheep auction to see what they have available. We show you what is involved with bidding online and what a "race horse" finish looks like.

The following days are spent trying to get our sheep fed. We are totally out of hay at the moment so we are getting by with feeding the sheep some old hay supplemented with grain, sharing pastures with the various sheep groups, and working hard to get hay cut between rain showers. Not easy!
