The SB.1436DB is a double small square baler, meaning it produces two small square bales simultaneously from a single baling chamber. Each bale measures approximately 14 by 18 inches, allowing the machine to effectively double output compared to a traditional single-bale system while maintaining the familiar bale format commonly used in hay operations.
One of the key features of the baler is its independent knotter system.
Although the machine is producing two bales at the same time, each side operates independently, with its own star wheel and knotting mechanism.
This setup allows each bale to be tied based on the amount of material reaching that specific side of the chamber rather than relying on a single synchronized tying system.
This design can be particularly beneficial in fields where crop flow is inconsistent.
In lighter windrows or areas with uneven crop distribution, the independent knotting systems allow each side of the baler to respond individually to changing crop conditions. The result is intended to be more consistent bale lengths, even when material flow varies across the width of the pickup.
Bale consistency is a major focus of the machine's design.
During internal field evaluations, Massey Ferguson compared the SB.1436DB with its Hesston by Massey Ferguson 1800 Series small square balers and observed strong consistency in bale formation.
The company noted that the double baler delivered highly uniform bales despite operating at increased output levels.
