Meat industry leaders honoured at MPO awards gala

Leaders from Ontario’s meat and poultry sector were recognized during the 2026 Meat & Poultry Ontario Awards Gala, which brought together industry members to celebrate achievements, community involvement and long-term commitment to the sector.

Held October 3, 2026, at The Westin Toronto Airport, the annual event highlighted individuals and organizations whose contributions have helped strengthen both the association and Ontario’s meat and poultry industry.

Among the evening’s major honours was the Meat Industry Achievement Award, presented to Jennifer Haley of Veal Farmers of Ontario. The Associate Member Recognition Award was awarded to Pack3000 Canada Ltd., while the Joe Abate Community Hero Award went to Kostas Dikeos of D&D Poultry.

The gala also recognized long-standing members for their continued involvement with the association. Carol Goriup received the Past President’s Award.

Several companies were honoured for membership milestones, including 10 years of membership for J&G Quality Meats Ltd., Parkhill Meats, and Erb Transport.

Organizations recognized for 25 years of membership included Stephen's Butcher Shop, MULTIVAC Canada, Finest Sausage Meat Ltd., and Sikorski Sausages Company Ltd.

Meanwhile, MMIS Inc., Walnut Hill Farm, and L'Orignal Packing Ltd. were honoured for reaching 40 years of membership.

The event also showcased winners from the Ontario’s Finest Meat Competition and crowned a new 2026 Ontario’s Finest Butcher, continuing a tradition that highlights craftsmanship and product quality within the province’s meat-processing sector.

After an intense competition showcasing some of Ontario’s top butchery talent, Marco Mazzarolo of Herrington’s Quality Butchers was crowned Ontario’s Finest Butcher 2026.

The Final Round, held on October 3 as part of the Meat Industry Expo at The International Centre in Mississauga, highlighted the exceptional technical skill, creativity and craftsmanship of Ontario’s butchers.
