The free sessions will include testimony from farmers and other stakeholders

An organization is hosting three days of conversations about agriculture in Alberta.

The National Citizens Inquiry (NCI), an independent and citizen-led initiative launched in November 2022 to investigate Canadian government responses to COVID-19, is hosting “Are Farmers Safe in Canada?” in High River, Alta., from Aug. 18 to 20.

The sessions will hear from farmers, veterinarians, policy experts, and other industry stakeholders on multiple issues in Canadian ag.

A notice on the NCI’s website indicates the organization invited Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald and Health Minister Marjorie Michel to participate.

Topics scheduled for discussion include economic and regulatory pressures, biosecurity, agricultural competitiveness, and food security, the event page says.

Scheduled presenters include author Sally Fallon Morell, and Dr. John Fagan, the chairman and chief scientist at the Health Research Institute.

Tickets for the event are free.

Donations are welcomed, and a community dinner reservation is included with donations of $25 or more.

This event will be the second of the “Are Farmers Safe” discussions the NCI holds in 2026.

The organization hosted its first batch in March in Kelowna, B.C.

Those sessions included Jordan Kealy, a cattle producer and independent member of the B.C. legislature representing Peace River North.

“Farmers really need to band together, and they need to start supporting each other. And it’s the same with every other citizen of Canada,” he said.
