Celebrating Half a Century of Harvesting Leadership and Technology

New Holland is celebrating 50 years of leadership in twin rotor harvesting technology, a milestone that began with the introduction of the TR70 combine in 1975.

This machine transformed agriculture by bringing the world the concept of twin rotor threshing and separation.

Farms.com recently met with Curtis Hillen, cash crop business manager for New Holland North America, to learn more about the history of its twin rotor technology and how it laid the foundation for its newest combines.

The twin rotor system uses two longitudinal rotors to gently thresh grain-on-grain, ensuring minimal damage while efficiently separating grain from non-grain material through centrifugal force.

This design helps farmers achieve superior grain quality, maximize savings, and maintain high harvesting capacity.

Over the past five decades, New Holland has continuously refined and enhanced this innovation, says Hillen.

By adding more power, improved efficiency, and advanced architecture, the company has expanded its line of combines and strengthened its global leadership in harvesting technology.

In 2002, the launch of the CR series marked the next evolution of twin rotor engineering. These machines introduced modern features such as grain loss sensors and yield monitoring, helping farmers collect more accurate data and optimize machine performance.

To further enhance productivity, New Holland developed IntelliSense harvest automation, allowing operators to automatically adjust machine settings based on changing crop and field conditions. This ensures maximum efficiency and consistent throughput throughout the harvest season.

In 2014, the CR10.90 combine set a world record for wheat harvesting, a benchmark that remains unbeaten after 11 years.

Continuing this legacy, New Holland recently introduced the CR11 and CR10 Series, representing the latest generation of twin rotor combines designed for the future of high-capacity, precision harvesting.

While other manufacturers have adopted twin rotor systems, New Holland remains the only company offering a complete range of twin rotor combines, continuing its tradition of innovation and leadership in the global agricultural industry.
