Sixteen breeds of beef cattle found in Canada

Braunvieh

Braunvieh

This breed’s name means brown cattle in German, which is an apt description of the cattle. Males are usually a darker brown and calves are born white but become more of a brown colour with age. Braunvieh didn’t come to Canada until 1968 from Switzerland but are one of the oldest pure breeds of cattle. This breed is most commonly found in Alberta.
