Vermeer announces major manufacturing investment creating 300 jobs in Iowa
Vermeer Corporation has announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Bondurant, Des Moines. The company recently acquired 186 acres of land for the project and plans to construct a 300,000 square foot production center that will initially support more than 300 jobs.
"I'm incredibly proud of this business, my grandfather, Gary Vermeer, began 78 years ago and the team is doing the work to equip Vermeer customers around the world. While Pella will always be home to our headquarters, the need for Vermeer equipment has continued to grow, and the innovation coming from Vermeer requires continued investment both in Pella and beyond," said Jason Andringa, President and CEO and third generation family member.
“After announcing the launch of our Vermeer Des Moines team just three years ago, we're excited to further our commitment to our customers, our team, the greater Des Moines metro and the state of Iowa through this investment," said Andringa.
The investment reflects the company’s strong growth and rising demand for its equipment and industrial parts. Over the past several years, Vermeer has experienced increasing customer demand across global markets. The expansion will help the company increase production capacity and continue developing innovative products.
Company leadership emphasized that the expansion supports the long-term growth of the business while maintaining strong roots in Iowa. The organization was founded more than 70 years ago and continues to operate its headquarters in Pella. However, growing demand for equipment and technology requires additional manufacturing space and investment beyond the original campus.
Operations in the Des Moines area began in 2023 when the company opened a facility with about 108,000 square feet of operational space. That location currently employs more than 140 workers who manufacture equipment parts and components used in many job site operations. These parts are essential for machines used in industries that support infrastructure development, natural resource management, and community services.
The new facility will be designed as a modern manufacturing center equipped with advanced technology and production systems. The building will include machining, welding, painting, and assembly capabilities. This full range of manufacturing processes will allow the company to produce both equipment components and complete products.
The location will also serve as a center supporting the company’s aftermarket parts business, particularly products used in cutting and wear applications. In addition, the facility will focus on manufacturing equipment used in utility work, tree care, and landscape industries.
"The Des Moines area has proven, in a short amount of time, to be a great place to build out our team and get important work done. We strive to be a top employer in the region, are committed to best-in-class manufacturing and believe this growth only helps demonstrate that," said Mindi Vanden Bosch, Vice President of Operations and third generation family member.
“We're proud to call Iowa home, and we're proud to build our team and our equipment right here in the heart of the Midwest," said Bosch.
Local partnerships have played an important role in the project. The City of Bondurant, the Iowa Economic Development Authority, and regional development organizations worked closely with the company to support the investment.
The new facility is part of a broader series of global investments made by the company in recent years, including expansions in South Carolina, the Netherlands, and Australia. These projects aim to strengthen manufacturing capacity and support customers around the world.
