New manufacturer enters the crop protection market with a focus on weed resistance management and dependable product supply.

Difficult-to-control weeds continue to pressure crop yields across North America, and growers are increasingly relying on residual herbicides as part of their weed management programs. A newly launched crop protection company hopes to provide another option.

Viriterra Inc. has announced the introduction of Perseus SC, its first product for the U.S. market. The new herbicide gives agricultural retailers and distributors an additional source of pyroxasulfone, a Group 15 herbicide used for residual weed control in corn, soybeans, wheat and other labeled crops.

According to the company, Perseus SC is formulated as a liquid suspension concentrate and provides residual control or suppression of annual grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds. Target species include Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and several foxtail species, weeds that remain among the most challenging for many grain producers.

For growers, the launch comes as herbicide resistance continues to complicate weed control decisions. Palmer amaranth and waterhemp have developed resistance to multiple herbicide groups in many production regions, making layered residual programs increasingly important for protecting yield potential.

One aspect that differentiates Viriterra from many crop protection suppliers is its manufacturing model. The company says it is a vertically integrated basic manufacturer that produces pyroxasulfone at commercial scale rather than sourcing the active ingredient from another supplier. The business operates with three manufacturing facilities and more than 300 employees.

Company officials say the goal is to provide distributors with both product availability and direct technical support.

The company reports that distributors purchasing Perseus SC will have direct access to commercial and technical personnel, allowing questions about the product, performance and application recommendations to be addressed by the manufacturer itself.

Beyond the product launch, Viriterra is positioning itself for longer-term growth. The company says additional herbicides and fungicides are currently under development, with product launches planned through 2031, subject to regulatory approvals.

Field performance data is already available for growers, agronomists and crop advisers interested in reviewing results. The company has published 2025 trial data organized by weed species, trial location and evaluation timing.

According to product information, Perseus SC is labeled across a broad range of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, potatoes, chickpeas, onions and sunflowers. The herbicide is intended to fit into integrated weed management programs that combine multiple herbicide sites of action and cultural practices to help delay resistance development.

As weed resistance challenges continue to evolve, manufacturers are racing to provide growers with dependable chemistry and product supply. Whether through new active ingredients or additional manufacturing sources for proven technologies, competition in the crop protection market is giving growers and retailers more choices in how they build weed control programs for the seasons ahead.
