2025 Livestock Enterprise Estimates Available

By Tim Christensen and Ann Johanns et.al

Iowa livestock producers can estimate their production costs for 2025 by using information published in the June edition of Ag Decision Maker.

The article, “Livestock Enterprise Budgets for Iowa,” provides average production cost estimates for common swine, beef and sheep enterprises in the state. Decision tool spreadsheets are also included that allow producers to enter their own numbers and estimate livestock enterprise budgets for their own operation.

Each budget contains estimates for both fixed and variable costs. The article notes that fixed costs occur regardless of the level of production each year. These costs include factors such as depreciation, interest and taxes on facilities and breeding livestock. Variable costs, like feed, depend on the scale of the production.
