Agricultural Lenders' Conference

Ontario Pork and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs hosted the 15th annual Agricultural Lenders’ Conference on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 in Stratford, Ontario.  Approximately 70 participants attended the meeting, which included representation from Ontario’s agricultural lending institutions and representatives from the pork industry.

Participants heard from a number of speakers on various topics relevant to the swine sector.  Kathleen Sullivan, Trade Issues Specialist delivered a presentation on trade issues and what it means for the pork sector and Dr. David Alves, Deputy Chief Veterinarian for Ontario talked about antibiotic use in livestock and emerging diseases.  Graham Learn from Oxford County provided a producer perspective and Dean Gurney, Manager of Industry and Member Services at Ontario Pork provided information and an update on traceability and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea.  Randy Duffy from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus discussed Benchmarking Ontario Swine Farms and John Bancroft, Market Strategies Program Lead for OMAFRA provided a 2014 hog market update. Amy Cronin, Chair of Ontario Pork, provided Ontario Pork updates.
