Bayer introduces new crop protection products for potatoes in Canada

The Crop Science division of Bayer recently announced that the company is introducing new potato crop protection products that will benefit Canadian potato growers.

The company has revealed that Emesto® Complete fungicide and insecticide seed-piece treatment, along with Velum® Rise fungicide/nematicide, have now been registered for use in Canada. This move is a testament to Bayer’s unwavering commitment to equip Canadian potato farmers with top-tier crop protection products.

Meghann Garlough, the Campaign Marketing Manager for Fruit and Vegetables at Bayer, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “This is a very exciting time. Emesto Complete and Velum Rise are part of our commitment to delivering effective, innovative, and convenient solutions for potatoes.”

Emesto Complete: The All-In-One Solution

Building on its trusted performance, Emesto Complete is a co-pack that combines the power of Group 4 insecticide clothianidin with the robustness of Emesto Silver fungicide. This combination ensures broad-spectrum protection against major pests and diseases. The new and improved clothianidin formulation is particularly effective against pests like aphids, Colorado potato beetles, and potato leafhoppers. Moreover, the fungicide actives guard against formidable diseases such as fusarium tuber rot and seed-borne rhizoctonia.

Garlough further elaborated on the benefits of Emesto Complete, saying, “As an all-in-one seed-piece treatment, Emesto Complete offers protection in one convenient package so you can feel confident in your potato crop from the beginning. Its application is straightforward, and its efficiency is unmatched with a low dose rate and low water volumes.”

Farmers can look forward to using Emesto Complete in the 2024 growing season. More details are available on the Bayer website at cropscience.bayer.ca/EmestoComplete.

Velum Rise: Elevating Quality and Yield

Velum® Rise, a broad-spectrum fungicide/nematicide, is designed for in-furrow application in potatoes. It merges the Group 7 active ingredients fluopyram and penflufen, ensuring advanced protection against crop diseases and nematodes. This product builds on the trusted performance of Velum Prime and expands the disease spectrum, aiding Canadian potato farmers in maximizing their crop’s quality and yield.

Garlough highlighted the product’s strengths, noting, “Velum Rise complements the Bayer potato portfolio by providing strong control on yield-robbing diseases. With Velum Rise, Canadian potato growers now have two additional tools in their field management system.”

Velum Rise will be available in 8.1 L jugs for the 2024 growing season. For more information, farmers are encouraged to visit cropscience.bayer.ca/VelumRise.
