EMILI Showcases Farm Innovation and AI Technology in Manitoba
Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, recently visited EMILI’s Innovation Farms in Manitoba to learn more about agricultural technology and artificial intelligence projects being tested in real-world farm conditions.
The visit gave the minister an opportunity to see how technology is helping drive innovation in agriculture and support the growth of Canadian agtech companies. Following the tour, Solomon highlighted Manitoba’s role in supporting startups, technology adoption, and innovation across multiple industries.
During the visit, EMILI representatives showcased more than 30 projects currently being tested and demonstrated at Innovation Farms. The projects involve a variety of emerging technologies designed to improve farming efficiency, data collection, crop management, and decision-making. Several participating companies and organizations were featured, demonstrating the growing innovation taking place within the agricultural sector.
The tour followed a Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce event focused on Canada’s developing artificial intelligence strategy. Business leaders gathered to discuss how AI can support businesses, workers, and Canada’s long-term competitiveness in the global economy. EMILI was a sponsor of the event and contributed to discussions about the future of technology in agriculture.
EMILI Chief Executive Officer Jacqueline Keena emphasized that Canadian agriculture presents an important opportunity for responsible AI adoption. She noted that farmers and agricultural innovators are already developing practical solutions that can help position Canada as a leader in agricultural technology.
Innovation Farms provides innovators with access to full-scale commercial farming environments where new technologies can be tested and evaluated under real-world conditions. This allows developers to better understand how their products perform before wider adoption by farmers.
EMILI also highlighted its involvement in the recently launched AIVA Network, a national initiative focused on accelerating agricultural innovation across Canada. The organization believes that continued testing, demonstration, and validation of emerging technologies will help increase confidence in AI-powered tools and encourage broader adoption across Canadian farms.
