Canada is putting additional resources behind the international marketing of Canadian pork at a time when finding and developing diversified export markets is becoming increasingly important to the sector.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Heath MacDonald announced up to $3.8 million in funding for Canada Pork through the AgriMarketing Program. The investment will support market access, international promotion and efforts to increase awareness of Canadian pork in markets across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
The initiative will include participation in international trade shows, trade missions and direct meetings between Canadian exporters and potential buyers.
But behind the funding announcement is a bigger story for Canadian pork producers: global pork trade is changing quickly, and Canada’s performance increasingly varies significantly from one market to another.
