CFA Statement on Canada–China Tariff Developments

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) welcomes the increased dialogue and newly announced progress between Canada and China on agricultural trade, marking an important step toward stabilizing and restoring market access for Canadian farmers.

The proposed elimination of tariffs across several key agricultural products, coupled with the significant reduction in tariffs on Canola seed, will provide immediate relief and contribute to restoring competitiveness for producers exporting to one of Canada’s most significant agricultural markets.

“These advancements are promising, demonstrating significant progress. This sets the foundation for continued dialogue to resolve outstanding trade barriers and foster a more predictable trade environment for Canadian farmers,” said Keith Currie, CFA President.

CFA looks forward to ongoing dialogue and further positive developments that support the long-term success and sustainability of Canadian agriculture as a strategic economic sector for Canada.
