Downtown Diner highlights how Canadian farmers are building a stronger future for Canada

Dairy Farmers of Canada, Chicken Farmers of Canada, Turkey Farmers of Canada, Egg Farmers of Canada and the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers welcomed Parliamentarians and members of the Ottawa community to the Downtown Diner yesterday--a special pop-up event to celebrate Canadian food and farmers who are helping to build a strong, food-secure future for Canada. Guests enjoyed snacks made with fresh, local Canadian ingredients while discussing the contributions of Canada's system of supply management to our national economy and food system.

Farmers representing Canada's dairy, poultry and egg sectors took centre stage, sharing how supply management provides a foundation for delivering a reliable supply of high-quality, domestically produced food every day. Speaking on behalf of more than 14,295 farmers across Canada, their message was simple: You can count on us. Through conversations with farmers, guests learned about the important role of supply management in building a food system grounded in stability and predictability that supports growth and rigorous animal welfare and food safety standards.

The Downtown Diner highlighted the sizable economic contribution these sectors make, delivering $45.13 billion to Canada's GDP and generating $14.86 billion in tax revenue each year,1 while meeting Canadian consumers' interest in a reliable supply of high-quality food, grown at home. The collaboration extended beyond the event with the release of the latest edition of The Farmers' Times, a publication that shares the stories of the people behind our food and the reasons Canadians are increasingly choosing Canadian food
