ACT Grower Summit returns to Québec on September 23

The ACT Group, a collaboration of four leading horticulture providers, will host their 3rd ACT Québec Grower Summit in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, on Tuesday, September 23.

This year’s theme is Insights and Opportunities for a Changing World: From Growers. For Growers.

ACT group members Grodan, Philips LED Lighting, Priva, and Svensson are inviting local commercial growers to learn about the latest research and technology applications to help enhance greenhouse operations and drive cost-effectiveness. This year’s program kicks off with a State of the Industry keynote address by Sue Lewis, vice-president, marketing and events, Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA).

New to this year’s agenda is Conversations in Cultivation. A panel of experienced local Québec growers will engage in a lively conversation, share valuable insights, and expert knowledge about the industry. This collaborative discussion will offer practical advice and inspiration for aspiring and seasoned growers alike.

Attendees will also learn about advanced humidity control and ensuring climate uniformity from Svensson, and Grodan and Philips LED Lighting will share results of an ongoing tomato trial at Botany in the Netherlands with the intent to reduce heat input by 40 per cent. Priva will present on maximizing integrated greenhouse data for autonomous cultivation and management; representatives from IUNU and Blue Radix will join Priva during this presentation.

Video: Running a Farm Store + Starting No-Till Gardens w/Blue Goose Farm

We cover: today we are chatting with Keenan McVey of Blue Goose Farm in Ontario Canada. Keenan, along with his wife Ashley, run this small farm and along with it a really interesting, in-town Farm Store that is a little different from what you might think of as a farm store and has proved to be an invaluable marketing option for them. Keenan’s roots are in the culinary world, and the farm was also started with another chef from the area some of you may know, named Matty Matheson (of the excellent show The Bear). Keenan tells us that story as well as helps detail the technical stuff about how the gardens were created and how they are maintained.
