Fertilizer Canada welcomes today’s announcement from Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, and Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, on strengthening Canada’s trade and transportation supply chains.
Fertilizer Canada has consistently advocated for action to improve the reliability, capacity, and resiliency of Canada’s transportation and trade supply chains, and we are encouraged to see these priorities reflected in the discussion papers, including designating National Trade Corridors, modernizing port governance, and simplifying regulatory reporting. Diversifying export markets and restoring Canada’s reputation as a reliable trading partner requires action, investment, and collaboration with industry. Strengthening essential trade routes, including the Vancouver corridor, and modernizing Canada’s ports will help improve competitiveness and support economic growth.
As a globally traded commodity, fertilizer depends on efficient and dependable supply chains to ensure products move to domestic and international markets. Improvements to Canada’s transportation system will support not only the fertilizer industry, but also the broader Canadian economy.
