FNA Sets Sights On CWB

Farmers of North America released a progress report last week on its concept for a new farmer owned fertilizer and grain marketing company.

The new company "Genesis Grain and Fertilizer" has now released its offering memorandum for producers.

The company is clearly interested in acquiring the assets of the CWB which they value at between $250 million and $300 million.

Spokesman Bob Friesen says so far producer interest has been strong.

"We've already had the response from 1,000 farmers who have indicated that they are willing to participate at some level," he said. "In fact those 1,000 farmers have already expressed interest in engaging up to $50 million."

The CWB has announced its ready for privatization.

FNA officials were trying to gauge producer interest during the harvest and are asking Ottawa for more time so that farmers really have a chance to study the proposal and invest in the concept.
