Foraging tours across Ontario offer wild food adventures

Ontario’s forests are especially rich this time of year, overflowing with wild edible plants and mushrooms.

If you’ve ever thought about trying your hand at foraging, or just want to learn something new, there are plenty of places around the province where you can get out into the woods with a guide who knows their stuff. Join a walk, take a workshop, and enjoy a meal made from what you’ve gathered.

Here are some of the best spots to explore foraging experiences across Ontario this season.

These foraging tours in Southwestern Ontario will take you through beautiful woodland trails just outside the Stratford area. You’ll learn all kinds of valuable skills, from how to identify wild edibles and mushrooms and how to harvest them prudently, to how to appreciate the wonderful flavours and health benefits of your newfound treasures. The colours and varieties found in the forest will amaze you. Novelist and naturalist Peter Blush has thought of everything, including recipes organized by season. His Forage & Feast events have been named one of the “Top 10 Adventures to Have this Summer” by Marriott International.
