Grain deliveries by Canada's two major railways decline slightly as new crop year begins: Ag Transport Coalition

According to the Ag Transport Coalition, the 2025-26 grain year has begun with continued strong performance from both CN and CPKC Rail.

However, each saw slight slippage compared with the prior week, most notably CN.

CN and CPKC supplied a combined 93 per cent of hopper cars ordered in grain week 1, down from the 98 per cent order fulfillment rate reported in week 52.

This marks the twelfth consecutive week that system performance has remained above the 90 per cent threshold.

CN supplied 91 per cent of cars ordered by shippers in week 1, a decline from the 96 per cent fulfillment rate in week 52.

That performance marked CN’s sixteenth consecutive week at or above the 80 per cent threshold, and the fifth consecutive week at 90 per cent or better.
