New agronomy role highlights quinn’s impact on corn growers
The Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC) has appointed Dan Quinn, an assistant professor of agronomy in Purdue University’s College of Agriculture, as its Extension specialist in agronomy. Quinn will continue supporting corn research, Extension programs, and agricultural education across Indiana, a role he has held as Purdue Extension’s corn specialist since 2021.
ICMC President Susan Brocksmith highlighted the importance of research in strengthening Indiana agriculture. “The Indiana Corn Marketing Council believes that good, reliable research will lead to healthier fields, better crops, higher yields and more profitable farms,” said Brocksmith.
Purdue leadership praised Quinn’s ability to connect scientific research with the needs of farmers. Bernie Engel, dean of Purdue’s College of Agriculture, said Quinn’s work demonstrates how research-based solutions can directly benefit Indiana’s agricultural community.
Quinn earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University and a doctorate from the University of Kentucky. His research and Extension program focuses on improving corn production, farm profitability, and environmental sustainability throughout the Midwest.
Laura Bowling, head of Purdue’s Department of Agronomy, recognized Quinn’s commitment to practical research and the use of emerging technologies to advance productivity and stewardship in Indiana agriculture. His work combines field-based studies with innovative approaches to address challenges facing growers.
Growing up in Michigan and working on farms helped spark Quinn’s interest in agriculture and soil science. Today, he conducts research at Purdue Agricultural Centers and collaborates with farmers across Indiana to evaluate crop management practices.
Quinn noted that ICMC funding supports applied field research aimed at solving major production challenges for Indiana corn growers. The support also helps fund educational resources, research updates, and collaborative initiatives that provide farmers with practical, science-based information.
Calling the appointment a significant honor, Quinn said it reflects the impact of his research and Extension efforts. Brocksmith added that Quinn’s work has delivered valuable insights for Indiana corn farmers and is expected to continue benefiting the state’s agricultural industry.
