Important Update on Golden Malrin Fly Bait from the ODA

By Nic Baumer

  • Previously Golden Malrin Fly Bait (active ingredient = methomyl) was a general-use pesticide commonly found for sale in many farm & home supply stores. The product had a substantial history of being used off label by individuals to kill pest mammals which USEPA recognized. The only legal use of this product is for fly bait.
  • The USEPA reclassified this product to a Restricted-Use Pesticide in 2025.
  • USEPA provided an in-accurate timeline for distribution and sale of the old general-use product existing stocks when they originally sent out a letter in July of 2025.
  • USEPA initially stated there would be a 365-day existing stocks window for the registrant/distributors/retailers to sell/distribute the old labeled product which would have been through 07/29/2026.
  • USEPA re-issued an additional letter (see attached) which only allowed the distribution/sale of the old general-use Golden Malrin labeling through February 28, 2026.
