Iowa Select Farms and the Deb & Jeff Hansen Foundation have launched a new “Farm to Frontline” initiative, providing $222,000 in support to 65 rural fire departments across Iowa.
The initiative, announced in conjunction with National Pork Month and Fire Prevention Month, will provide $3,000 gifts to 64 rural fire departments to help purchase equipment, tools and supplies.
The Iowa Falls Fire Department, located in the home community of Iowa Select Farms and the Deb & Jeff Hansen Foundation, received an additional $30,000 gift as part of the program’s September launch.
The initiative highlights the close relationship between agriculture and rural emergency services. The departments receiving support serve communities where Iowa Select Farms employees, contractors, farmers and their families live and work. Several Iowa Select Farms employees also serve as volunteer firefighters.
Many of the departments have responded to emergencies at Iowa Select Farms facilities.
“These departments are there when people need them most,” said Deb Hansen, co-founder of Iowa Select Farms and the Deb & Jeff Hansen Foundation. “When an emergency happens in a rural community, these firefighters don’t hesitate. They show up for their neighbors, their friends, and communities.”
