New Crop Mission Underway

Canadian delegations will be visiting about 17 countries during this year's canadian wheat new crop missions.

Groups recently returned home from south america and asia, while others are getting ready to head out to north africa, europe and south asia.

This means two out of the four 2016 canadian wheat new crop missions have been completed.

Cereals canada president Cam Dahl says these types of trips are really important.

He stated that quality was the main focus of this year's trips, with fusarium being a major concern.

He noted over 55 per cent of the hard red spring crop is still number 1 and number 2 grade, however durum is quite the contrast...

Dahl said, "Durum is a little bit more of a difficult conversation and we will be leaving this week for North Africa. North Africa is one of our largest Durum markets as well as Italy. That will also be a difficult conversation as its the largest Durum crop we've had but we don't nessesarily have the high volume or quality due to Fusarium."
