New Dems Demand Answers and Action as New World Screwworm Cases Threaten American Beef Production & Prices

New Dem Farm Bill Task Force Chair Rep. Jim Costa (CA-21), and Reps. Sharice Davids (KS-03) and Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) led 21 New Dem Members in a letter to Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins demanding answers about the Department of Agriculture’s response to the emergence of New World screwworm (NWS) in the United States and urging the Trump Administration to provide ranchers, farmers, and producers with the tools they need to contain the outbreak.

As producers across the Southwest confront growing uncertainty, New Dems are urging USDA to prioritize transparency, coordination, and science-driven results. Ranchers and farmers, who have already been hit by years of drought, rising costs, and record-low cattle herds, need clear guidance and confidence that the federal government will respond effectively to protect animal health and producers’ livelihoods. The last thing they need is a flesh-eating parasite that threatens their herds and drives up already out-of-control beef prices.
