Ontario Hog Market Update: Prices Pull Back as Futures Weaken

Ontario hog prices moved lower during the week ending August 7, giving back some of the gains recorded through July, according to the latest Weekly Hog Market Facts compiled by Maggie Henry, Swine Specialist with OMAFA.

The Ontario 100% Base Formula Price declined to $245.62/ckg, down from $250.56 the previous week. Despite the weekly decline, the price remains above the $236.67 recorded in early July. However, it continues to trail year-ago levels, when the comparable formula price stood at $274.12/ckg.

Pig values also softened. The calculated value for a weaned pig declined to C$63.86 per pig, while the feeder pig value slipped to C$101.32 per pig.

U.S. Pork Markets Also Under Pressure

The USDA pork carcass cutout declined to US$100.51/cwt, compared with $102.36 the previous week and $116.97 a year earlier.

Lean hog futures also moved lower. August 2026 futures closed Friday at US$95.50/cwt, down from $98.85 the previous week. October closed at $82.23, December at $73.58 and February 2027 at $77.13.
