Quebec farmers are preparing for the fall collection of expired pesticides and medications.

Across Quebec, agricultural producers are preparing for one of AgriRÉCUP's most appreciated and well-established environmental management initiatives: the program for collecting unused pesticides and expired medications for livestock and horses (PMP).

This AgriRECUP program operates on a three-year cycle. It helps agricultural producers protect their land and communities. The program accepts, free of charge, unwanted commercial-grade pesticides and expired livestock and horse medications. All are disposed of safely. New in 2026, offered exclusively in Quebec: agricultural producers can also return their expired treated seeds.

This year, 22 collection days will take place across Quebec, from September 21 to October 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For added convenience, some more remote regions will benefit from three-week collection periods. These nine regions include Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, among others. Dates and times vary. See all the details below and also on AgriRECUP.ca.

PMP program coordinator Heather Bradley explains: “Agricultural producers appreciate this program. During the last PMP collection held in Quebec, AgriRÉCUP recorded record participation, with a significant increase in the quantities of unused pesticides and expired medications collected for livestock and horses. This success demonstrates the growing commitment of producers to the safe and responsible management of these products. We are therefore very optimistic about participation in this year’s collection.”

The program is funded by members specializing in crop protection and by the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI). Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and CEO of CAHI, emphasizes: “CAHI members are proud to support this important program and the strong culture of responsible management within Quebec’s agricultural sector. Our long-standing partnership with AgriRÉCUP provides a safe and free solution for disposing of unused or expired livestock medications, thereby helping to protect animals, farms, and our communities across the province.”

ICSA members are proud to support this important program and the strong culture of responsible management that exists within Quebec's agricultural sector. Our long-standing partnership with AgriRÉCUP provides a safe and free solution for disposing of unused or expired livestock medications, helping to protect animals, farms, and our communities across the province. It offers an essential solution for those in the agricultural sector who want to safely dispose of unwanted and expired pesticides and veterinary drugs cluttering their farms.
