Regional Ag Offices Re-Opening

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture has re-opened its regional offices across the province. While the doors are open, though, they aren’t encouraging anyone to come rushing in.

“For both the Ministry of Agriculture and SCIC (Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation), yes the doors are open but we are still encouraging farmers to contact the specialists at the Ministry of Agriculture or folks at the SCIC – the preference is to phone, or email, or text us,” said Ken Evans, an Agriculture Program Specialist at the Weyburn Regional Office.

For those who do need to come in, there are precautions being taken in the office. Barriers are set up at the front desk for those who do come in, and physical distancing is maintained.

Services are still being offered at the office in Weyburn. For those who need to have water samples dropped off, a table is set up outside the door of the office for those to be dropped off. It is asked for the samples to be labelled with the name, contact information and the location where the sample was taken.

“Preferably would be maybe contacting the livestock specialist at the Weyburn office to let us know that those water jugs are coming in,” Evans added.

There is also a dropbox set up for those who need to drop off seeded acreage reports for the SCIC.

Evans pointed out they are still able to do field calls, however, they can only do so in situations where precautions such as physical distancing can be maintained.
